what's better than having a delicious andhearty breakfast to kick-start your day? i can't think of any right now. prepare yourselffor the ultimate sausage and egg breakfast sandwich. this isn't your typical fast foodone. it's taking a classic and kicking up a notch. we're going to be using real ingredientslike real eggs and sausage. but we're also going to add some fancy flair to it. so let'sget started. you're going to need about 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter, softened, abrioche bun or you can use your favorite bread like a bagel, sliced sourdough, or even anenglish muffin would be really good in this recipe too! one breakfast sausage link. ilike to buy the fresh ones from the meat department. usually at stores like whole foods or specitaltystores they make them early in the morning
and sell them in bulk. so you can get thoseand mold them into patties too. your favorite cheese, today i'm using havarti because ilove how it gets all melty on the sandwich. but i recommend sharp cheddar or even swiss!one egg, and this is optional but i like to add arugula and sliced heirloom tomatoes.you can choose to leave this out if you don't have it available. first slice and butteryour bread and set it aside. now, take your sausage link and open up the casing by slicingit down the middle. then take the meat out and form it into a small patty about the samesize and shape as your bread. next, take a heavy skillet and put it on thestove on medium heat. add in some olive oil and let the pan get hot but not smoking. thentoast your bread with the butter side down
for about a minute until it gets that lightand golden brown color. take your bread off and then add your sausage patty and pressit down with a spatula to flatten it. cook it on both sides until it's golden brown, about 2 minutes on each side. put the cheese on top and let it melt for about 30 seconds, and then transfer it to a plate with paper towel on it to drain.now fry your egg in the fat remaining from the skillet and cook until the whites areset but the yolk is still soft. this will take about 2 to 2 and a half minutes. i lovemy eggs runny because it's like extra sauce for the sandwich. the bread is going to soakit all up and it's going to be so good! now we're going to layer our sandwich. startwith the sausage and cheese patty, and then
add in your toppings like sliced tomatoesor arugula. and then carefully top it off with your egg! you can season this with saltand pepper but i like to add ketchup., it's my secret ingredient. i grew up eating eggswith ketchup and a lot of people think it's kind of weird and quirky but i love it, it'slike my favorite thing. what would you add to your breakfast sandwich?let me know by commenting below and remember: breakfast is the most important meal of theday so make it a good one. i'll see you guys next time. bye!
